Gumfield Wāhine, Round Houhora Way

Once, kauri forests covered most of Northland. Gumfield Wāhine, Round Houhora Way in the Rakau / Tree edition of Flash Frontier is an ekphratic flash fiction and an extract from my new novel. Although I have some digger ancestors, I didn’t realise that during the last five decades of the nineteenth century, the main export from Auckland province was not gold or wool, or even kauri timber…it was kapia, kauri gum.
