THE RIGHT HAND GIRL

07/18/26

Thanks so much to the team at Pulp Literature and judge Finnian Burnett – my longer flash fiction,
The Right Hand Girl
is runner up, with an honourable mention in the 2026 Hummingbird Flash Fiction Prize.

This story was inspired by a documentary on Irish radio about women in farming and childhood memories of staying on my cousin’s farm. Finnian says: “this piece created a rhythmic poetry in the story that built to the heartbreaking ending. I love the use of second person future tense – a POV so difficult to pull off, but when done well, as in this story, it’s memorable and engaging.”
